Dialogs & toasts
Dialogs
Dialogs interrupt for a decision. They are modal, centered, and escape with Esc or the close button. A dialog has at most three actions, and the confirming action carries the intent's styling.
Destructive flows
Destructive actions follow a strict sequence: the trigger button is destructive-styled only inside the confirmation dialog; the entry point looks like a normal button until the user commits.
Do
→ dialog → destructive button
Entry point is calm; the dialog carries the destructive styling.
Don't
immediately destructive
A red button in a list invites accidental clicks and ignores confirmation.
Toasts
Toasts report the outcome of a background operation. They auto-dismiss after ~4 seconds, stack bottom-end, and never block input.
Rules
- Dialogs state the consequence before the action (“This will remove the Parch Welcome application and its 3 dependencies”).
- Cancel is always available in destructive dialogs.
- Toasts are not for decisions, anything requiring a choice is a dialog or a banner.
- Don't stack more than three toasts; coalesce repeats (“3 mirrors failed”).
