Parch

FAQ

Is Parch just Arch with a theme?

No. The theme layer is visible, but the substance is: a package repository (world) with Parch-maintained software, per-edition ISO profiles with a Calamares installer configured for Persian-first defaults, and a set of first-party applications (Pastor, Welcome, Update, Kernel Manager, and more). What Parch adds to Arch walks the full inventory with links to every repository.

Can I use AUR packages on Parch?

Yes. Parch is Arch-compatible; the AUR works with any AUR helper or makepkg. Packages useful to Parch specifically belong in Parch's repos; everything else stays in the AUR. See submission guidance.

Why is SigLevel = Never for the world repo?

Because packages in world are not GPG-signed today. It is documented as a known gap rather than hidden; the signing design and its status are in Release artifacts.

How often do ISOs release?

Editions tag releases when their accumulated changes justify an image: there is no fixed cadence. Installed systems update continuously regardless of ISO releases.

Which edition should I build from?

Start from parch-iso-template for custom work (it is minimal and meant for exactly that); build an existing edition like parch-iso-plasma first to verify your toolchain. See Build your first ISO.

Do I have to use KDE Plasma to develop for Parch?

No. Plasma is the flagship desktop, but Parch ships GNOME, XFCE, Hyprland, and minimal editions. Applications should feel native to their target desktop; the toolkit guide helps you choose.

Why is Persian required in first-party apps?

Because Parch's core audience is Persian-speaking, and treating Persian as a translation afterthought produces broken RTL, wrong fonts, and second-class UX. The contract: Persian ships at release. See Localization.

Where do I report a bug?

In the affected repository's issue tracker, with logs. The contribution workflow maps each kind of bug to the right door.

Is there a Parch SDK?

No. A unified SDK has been proposed, but nothing exists to download today; documentation that claims otherwise (an earlier handbook chapter) is outdated. Build with the standard toolchains in Application Development.

Can I make my own Parch edition?

Yes: that is what the template profile is for. Rename it, keep the build working, and follow the branding rules in the custom edition tutorial.

Does Parch work offline?

Installed systems work offline for everything local; the Store shows installed packages offline, and updates simply wait. ISOs install offline except for net-editions. See offline behavior.
